Comply with EU law, protect vulnerable people, end refusals at internal borders
Germany has reintroduced fixed checks at its internal borders and is turning back asylum seekers there without examining their applications. The motion states that this violates EU law because the Dublin Regulation requires an initial review of which country is responsible for the asylum procedure in each case. It especially criticizes that particularly vulnerable people such as families and children were also turned back. The checks also place such heavy strain on the Federal Police that experts consider the current workload sustainable for only three to four weeks. For trucks, each hour of waiting causes costs of around 100 euros, which harms companies in border regions. Instead, Germany should act within European cooperation and rely on mobile police operations.
