Reform Medical Care Centers

Proposal summary
Medical Care Centers (MVZ) are medical practices where doctors can work as employees instead of opening their own practice. There are currently more than 4,800 such centers in Germany. A growing problem is that more and more MVZ are owned by investors who focus on quick profits rather than good patient care. In future, municipalities should be able to set up their own MVZ more easily, especially in regions where there are too few doctors. In addition, patients and authorities should be able to clearly see who an MVZ really belongs to. Doctors in these centers should remain free in medical decisions and should not have to follow their operators’ economic targets.
