Proposal summary
Germany and Austria will work more closely in future when a civilian aircraft is suspected of being used improperly and poses a threat in the airspace. Military aircraft from one country may enter the other country’s airspace for this purpose without obtaining an additional authorization. Permitted measures include escorting, observation, or radio instructions to land. The use of force or weapons in the other country’s airspace is explicitly prohibited. The Bundestag approves the agreement, which was signed on 9 December 2022 in Berchtesgaden.
