Official title: Implementation of the BVerfG ruling on challenging paternity (second reading)

Proposal summary

The law redefines when a biological father can challenge another man’s legal paternity. If the child is a minor and lives in a stable family with the legal father, a challenge is generally not possible. However, there are exceptions, for example if the biological father has a close relationship with the child himself or, through no fault of his own, was unable to establish contact. If the child is an adult, they can prevent a challenge by objecting. The biological father also gets a second chance if the legal father’s family later breaks apart.
