German farmers have fewer and fewer plant protection products available: since 2019 not a single new chemical active substance has been authorised, while 76 chemical and 21 biological active substances have lost their authorisation. The authorisation process is to be fundamentally simplified so farmers again have reliable access to effective products. The Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) is to coordinate all decisions as the central authority. Research and modern technologies such as precision agriculture are also to be supported more strongly.
