Reform the Fertiliser Ordinance to enable needs-based fertilisation in line with good professional practice again

Proposal summary

The current Fertiliser Ordinance is criticised as too bureaucratic and too rigid. Farmers have to keep extensive documentation and are only allowed to fertilise to a limited extent in so-called “red zones”, even if their farm can demonstrate that it does not cause excessive nitrate levels. The ordinance is to be fundamentally revised: unnecessary rules should be removed, nitrate monitoring networks improved, and modern methods such as digital fertilisation planning recognised. The aim is regulation that better balances environmental protection and practical economic realities.
