Exempt the Federal Court of Auditors from the austerity drive, increase staff by 2 percent

The Bundesrechnungshof, which audits the federal government’s spending, is to be exempt from the general austerity drive. Instead, it would be allowed to increase its staff in 2026 by up to 2 percent. Reason: in recent years, the Court of Auditors has cut a lot of staff while the state has been spending more and more money, increasing the audit workload. Without more staff, it can no longer fully carry out its role as an independent oversight body.
