Bill to amend the rules on permissible rent at the start of a lease

The rent cap (Mietpreisbremse) is extended by four years and will now apply until the end of 2029. It limits what landlords may charge when renting out again: at most 10 percent above the local comparable rent. The federal states can continue to designate areas with a tight housing market where the rule applies. The aim is to protect especially people on low or middle incomes from sharp rent increases.
