Draft law to temporarily reduce the energy tax on fuels

Due to rising energy prices as a result of the Iran war, taxes on petrol and diesel will be reduced temporarily. From 1 May to 30 June 2026, the energy tax on both fuels will fall by 14.04 cents per litre each; including VAT, this amounts to savings of up to around 17 cents gross per litre. In total, consumers and businesses will be relieved by around 1.6 billion euros. The reduction is intentionally time-limited so that it is not understood as a permanent substitute for more energy-efficient use.
