Proposal summary

The electricity tax is to be reduced for all consumers to the lowest level permitted by European rules. For private households, that would mean 1 euro per megawatt-hour, and for businesses 0.50 euros per megawatt-hour, significantly less than before. Overall, consumers would be relieved by around 6 billion euros per year. At the same time, many existing special rules and exemptions in tax law would be eliminated, making the law simpler.
