Energy price shocks from the Iran war: relieve businesses and consumers
Rejected
Proposal summary
Because of the war between the USA, Israel and Iran, massive energy price increases could occur if key oil and gas transport routes are blocked. The Federal Government should prepare a relief law that can enter into force immediately in the event of a serious supply shortage. Specifically, taxes and levies on electricity, gas, petrol and diesel should be significantly reduced, including by lowering VAT to 7 percent and suspending the national CO2 charge. The resulting loss of state revenue should be offset by cuts to climate funds and development assistance.
