Restructuring Bürgergeld into a new basic income support

Bürgergeld will be renamed Grundsicherung für Arbeitsuchende and fundamentally restructured. People receiving benefits will in future be required to cooperate more and do everything that can reasonably be expected to find a job, including full-time work. Jobcenters will get more options to respond to lack of cooperation or abuse, for example through stricter benefit reductions. At the same time, people facing particular difficulties are to be better supported, for example through easier access to subsidized employment. Parents must seek work or training from their child’s first birthday.
