People who inherit very large sums of money often pay little or no inheritance tax today, even though the tax rate is supposed to rise with the size of the inheritance. In 2023, inheritances and gifts of more than 6 billion euros were taxed at only 0.13 percent. The existing tax breaks for large assets are to be abolished. At the same time, paying the tax in instalments or by transferring an asset share is to be made easier so a business does not have to be sold.
