Proposal summary

The law enables the Federal Government to declare countries to be safe countries of origin by statutory instrument without involving the Bundesrat. Asylum applications from these countries are then processed faster, and if rejected, concluded more quickly. In addition, the requirement to automatically provide people in detention pending deportation with a court-appointed lawyer is abolished. In 2025, 82 percent of asylum applications were rejected; the rules are intended to speed up procedures and relieve authorities.
