Motion to tax luxury flights
Rejected
Proposal summary
People flying in First Class or on private jets would in future pay a higher tax. Germany would join an international alliance and add a surcharge to the existing air transport tax for luxury and private-jet flights. The additional revenue would flow into the federal budget and help finance climate action. A long-haul First Class flight is about nine times as harmful to the climate as an Economy flight, and a private jet can be up to 80 times as harmful.
